Landlord and Tenant Allocation
To support asset-level reporting and ensure consistent attribution of utility consumption, meters onboarded into the Cambio platform are classified according to the building area served and the applicable lease structure. Meter classification enables the allocation of energy consumption between landlord-controlled and tenant-controlled areas in a transparent and reproducible manner.
Each meter is tagged during the onboarding and data review process based on information provided by the property manager regarding the metered space and lease configuration. Meter tags determine how energy consumption is attributed within the building and how landlord and tenant energy use are calculated for reporting and analysis purposes. Meters fall into one of three allocation categories: Landlord (consumption attributed entirely to Scope 1 or Scope 2), Tenant (consumption attributed entirely to Scope 3, Category 13), or Shared (whole-building meter where consumption is allocated between landlord and tenant using floor-area proration, with the tenant share reported as Scope 3 Category 13 and the landlord share reported as Scope 1 or Scope 2, as applicable). Meter classification and allocation rules are maintained within the Cambio platform and applied consistently across all assets. Any updates to meter tagging or asset floor-area configuration automatically propagate through downstream calculations to ensure that landlord and tenant energy allocations remain synchronized with the most current building metadata.
Calendarization
Utility bills spanning non-calendar billing periods are converted into a calendar-month time series using day-weighted allocation. This produces one consumption value per meter per calendar month, enabling consistent year-over-year comparison and ensuring that scope allocation and GHG calculations are applied on a standard reporting cadence.
